ABOUT THE EVENT
Join us for a performance of Candela by Bomba con Buya, followed by a conversation with Candela co-producers Brenda Torres-Figueroa and Arif Smith, moderated by Aislinn Borsini chapter coordinator for Black Lives Matters Chicago. The conversation will address a range of issues including: Afro-Caribbean immigration and diasporic struggles; the erasure of Black struggle within the mainstream discourse on immigration reform, labor justice, and Latinx; the place of self-determination in autonomous movement building; and the ways bomba culture can be a bridge between Antillean, Caribbean, and other African diasporas.
